Asian Football Awards Criteria

How to nominate
Before nominating a person, group or organisation for an award, please read the general criteria and the criteria for the individual category you are nominating them for. All of these criteria are listed further down this page.
Please keep these criteria in mind as you make your nominations as the Awards Committee will use these during the short listing process.

When filling out the reasons for your nomination, we strongly recommend that you draft your text in a document (such as a Microsoft Word document), save it and then copy and paste it into the form. This is because the form does not save and if, for example, you lose your Internet connection, your work will be lost. We will also confirm receipt by email within office hours (Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm) - if you do not receive confirmation, please email nominate@asianfootbalawards.co.uk
The award categories this year are as follows and the criteria for each category are: Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Asian Woman in Football, Up and Coming Player of the Year (Academy, Reserve and 1st Team), Football Development Project of the Year, Foundation of the Year, Investors in Football, Football 'Behind the Scenes' Award 'Administration', Football 'Behind the Scenes' Award 'Medical', Football Media Award, Grass Roots Hero, Asian Team of the Year, Inspiration Award and Lifetime Achievement Award
AFA 2012 Player of the Year
This award recognises a person who has excelled in football and is a positive role model to others.
The criteria are:
• Nominee must be aged 21 years or over on 6th January 2012.
• A sports man or woman who has excelled in the world of football. (Teams played for, rankings and achievements made during the eligibility period must be given.)
• Are an inspiration and positive role model to other Asians.
AFA 2012 Coach of the Year
This award recognises the achievements of a paid or unpaid coach/manager who has made a significant impact on those they have coached. It further recognises their commitment to providing more opportunities for people to start, stay and succeed in football.
The criteria are:
• Nominee is a qualified coach/manager who has made a significant contribution to others through their coaching.
• Is of South Asian Origin
• Are currently coaching in football.
• Widening access through high quality coaching and innovative practices.
• An inspiration and positive role model for South Asians and peers.
• Be qualified and committed to continued professional development.
• Has built strong relationships and links with clubs, schools or community organisations.
AFA 2012 Asian Woman in Football
This award recognises a person who has excelled in their role within football and is a positive role model to others.
The criteria are:
• A female who has excelled in the world of football, from playing,coaching, administration, management or community projects.
• Is of South Asian Origin
• Are an inspiration and positive role model to other Asians.
AFA 2012 Up and Coming Player of the Year
This award recognises a young person who has excelled in their sport and is a positive role model to others.
The criteria are:
• Nominee must be 21 years of age or under on 6th January 2012.
• Is of South Asian Origin
• A sports man or woman who has excelled in football. (Teams played for, rankings and achievements made during the eligibility period must be given.)
• Are an inspiration and positive role model to other Asians.
AFA 2012 Football Development Project of the Year
This award recognises a football development project, which provides a high quality sports environment for its members. The project will have achieved this through positively implementing a football development project targeting or including South Asians in the UK.
The criteria are:
• Can demonstrate commitment to the development of the members of their development project, including participants, coaches and volunteers.
• Committed to raising standards and have achieved or at least be working towards the development of South Asians in Football.
• Effectiveness at creating new opportunities for more people from South Asian community to engage, participate or succeed in football.
• Engages with the local community.
• Has put in place infrastructure, which will sustain the project in the future.
AFA 2012 Football Foundation of the Year
This award recognises a football foundation, which provides a high quality footballing environment for its members. The foundation will have achieved this through targeting South Asians and their individual requirements to assist in developing footballers for the future or community building activities.
The criteria are:
• Can demonstrate commitment to the development of the members within their foundation.
• Committed to raising standards and have achieved or at least be working towards the development of South Asians in Football and/or encouraging community activities.
• Has built strong links with schools in order to engage with young people.
• Engages with the local community.
AFA 2012 Investors in Football
This award recognises an individual or organisation in the professional game. They must have invested in the professional game either as an owner, community initiative or development project.
The criteria are:
• Can demonstrate commitment to the development of their investment in the professional game or development projects.
• Committed to raising standards and have achieved or at least be working towards the development of the professional game.
• The individuals or stake owners must be of South Asian Origin.
• Engages with the local community.
• Are an inspiration and positive role model to other investors or the South Asian community.
AFA 2012 Football'Behind the Scenes' Award - Administration'
This award recognises an individual and their role in working behind the scenes of football in an administartive capacity.
The criteria are:
• An individual that has made a significant contribution in their role to working in the football industry in the UK.
• Is of South Asian Origin.
• Having built a positive reputation in their roles
• A positive role model to other South Asians.
• An inspiration and example of best practice for others.
AFA 2012 Football'Behind the Scenes' Award - Medical'
This award recognises an individual and their role in working behind the scenes of football in a medical capacity.
The criteria are:
• An individual that has made a significant contribution in their role to working in the football industry in the UK.
• Is of South Asian Origin.
• Previously/Currently working with the professional football leagues in a medical related role including doctor, physiotherapist or any other medical role required in the professional game.
• Having built a positive reputation in their roles
• A positive role model to other South Asians.
• An inspiration and example of best practice for others.
AFA 2012 Football Media Award'
The Football Media award is for an individual who is currently or has been a journalist or presenter in one of the following fields: press, radio, digital and TV.
The criteria are:
• Is recognised as a journalist or presenter within the game of football.
• Is of South Asian Origin.
• Media roles encompass individuals from press, digital, TV or radio
• Having built a positive reputation in their roles
• A positive role model to other South Asians.
AFA 2012 Grass Roots Heroes
This award recognises those who give up their time for free and by doing so make participating in football possible in their community. This category aims to recognise the wide variety of roles that volunteers perform.
The criteria are:
• Nominee has made a positive impact on others through their volunteering efforts
• Are volunteering within football projects targeting or including Asians in the UK.
• An inspiration and positive role model for participants and their peers.
• Has demonstrated considerable commitment to volunteering over a number of years.
AFA 2012 Asian Team of the Year
This award recognises an Asian football team team that has achieved significant sporting and community success.
The criteria are:
• Professional or community sports teams are eligible for nomination in this category.
• The team has displayed excellence in football. (Details of rankings and achievements made during the eligibility period must be given.)
• Are a inspiration for local community or South Asians in football.
• Demonstration of dedication and commitment from the team members and those involved in supporting the team (e.g. coaches, volunteers and community).
AFA 2012 Inspiration Awards
This special award recognises an individual who has an inspirational story in achieving in their status in the football industry. Either as a sports man/woman, within community projects or administration of the game (able bodied or disabled). A real unsung hero.
The criteria are:
• An individual that has achieved against the odds.
• A role model for others.
• Is of South Asian Origin.
AFA 2012 Lifetime Achievement Awards
This special award recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to football – either as a South Asian in the professional game or an individual who has dedicated his life to developing football.
The criteria are:
• An individual that has made an exceptional contribution football.
• A role model for others.
• Is of South Asian Origin.
• Involvement in football and community over a number of years.
Notes Individual Awards
For Individual Awards - The individual would be a person in one of the following categories:
• South Asian origin and is born in the UK (working in the UK or Abroad).
• South Asian Origin and is currently residing or working in the UK
All the above are guidelines for you all to consider when making your nominations. You can nominate as many times as you like and you can nominate the same person in different categories if you feel they fit the criteria – each nomination should be on a separate form.
